Know Your Skin: Find the Care That Suits You

Your Skin Condition

Here at GMC Press, we appreciate that everyday circumstances can affect the way your skin looks and feels. These include the time of year, changing weather conditions, fluctuating day-to-day stress levels, lack of sleep and diet. Understanding your skin can help you choose skincare products that suit its needs.

Home Skin Test

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat it dry and observe how it feels over the next hour, without applying products. Then gently press clean facial blotting paper onto different areas to check for oil.

Oil across several areas may suggest oily skin. Oil mainly in your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), with drier cheeks, may suggest combination skin. If your skin feels tight or flaky, it may be dry. Skin that feels comfortable without noticeable dryness or excess oil is generally described as normal.

This is only a rough guide. Below is a quick overview of common skin types and concerns, alongside our relevant skincare ranges.

Oily

Oily skin often looks shiny, with more noticeable pores, and may be prone to blemishes and blackheads. You might also experience tightness if you over-cleanse or use harsh products. Oily skin still needs moisture, so choose gentle products that do not leave it feeling dry or irritated.

What to use: No Flaw Range, our skincare range for oily skin.

Combination/Normal

Combination skin has both oily and dry areas, typically dry cheeks and an oily T-zone. Normal skin is different: it generally feels balanced, without persistent dryness or excess oil.

What to use: Balance It Range, designed to moisturise dry areas while caring for combination skin.

Sensitive

Sensitive skin may sting, burn, itch or become red after using certain products. Sensitivity can affect dry, oily, or combination skin; it doesn’t necessarily mean your skin is thin or that you have an allergy. Reactions to skincare ingredients can sometimes cause contact dermatitis.

What to use: Please contact us for a consultation so we can discuss your skin’s needs and any known allergies before recommending products.

Dry

Dry skin often feels tight, especially after cleansing. It may be prone to flaking, irritation, and a rough texture, and fine lines may become more noticeable. On darker skin tones, dryness may also make skin look ashy.

What to use: The Endless Moisture Range, formulated with oils rich in fatty acids to soften the skin and help it retain moisture.

Mature/Ageing/Sun Damage

As skin matures, lines and wrinkles become more noticeable, and it may feel drier or less firm. Sun damage can contribute to uneven pigmentation, visible small blood vessels and changes in texture. These concerns can affect different skin types. For further information, Aventis explains options for treating ageing skin.

What to use: Stay Young Range, designed to nourish and moisturise mature skin.

Skincare does not replace sun protection. Help protect your skin with shade, suitable clothing and sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and four-star UVA protection, following the NHS sun safety advice.
